Witnessing my father's struggle with Multiple Sclerosis sparked my interest in nutrition. To address his disease, we tried various approaches, including healthy food, targeted supplements, and cutting-edge medications prescribed by his doctor. None of this was the final answer. After he passed away, I realized there must be other underlying factors that are not being addressed.
Throughout my career, I self-published 15 books on healthy eating and exercising. Staying up late on my computer trying to save the world was perhaps not the best thing for my own longevity. Even though I ate good food and exercised daily, I developed a blood clot in my left leg. Looking back, I realized I always carried my cell phone in my left pant pocket. Regardless if that was a coincidence or not, there I was, a 40-year-old fitness guru taking blood-thinner medication meant for an old man. The combination of diet and exercise was not the solution for me. There must be other, non-caloric behaviors that nobody is considering. People should not be falling apart in their 30s and 40s, as they do.
Imagine dedicating your life to diet and exercise, only to wake up one day and realize that everything you thought you knew was incomplete. While searching for answers, I discovered the work of neurosurgeon, Dr. Jack Kruse. His approach to circadian biology and the use of biophysics as a foundation offered a unique perspective on health and wellness. Understanding how your biological rhythms interact with your environment can provide deeper insights into maintaining optimal health.
Circadian biology examines how your metabolism is influenced by the light and dark cycles we experience daily. By aligning your lifestyle with these natural rhythms, you can optimize your overall state of well-being. Getting your circadian biology right is crucial for health and longevity. Circadian biology was not completely understood until recently, so there's no reason to dispair over the naiveté of our past belief systems. The circadian diet books on the market have always been biochemically focused and do not fully incorporate biophysics as a first principle.
It's truly surprising how crucial information about circadian biology remains hidden from the general public. Despite attending prestigious institutions like Stony Brook University and C.W. Post, and working in the dietetic department at a local hospital, I never encountered this vital field of study. Even mentoring with a PhD Nutritionist and a Harvard Medical doctor did not expose me to circadian biology. The predominant paradigm focuses on healthy food, exercise, supplements, pharmaceutical drugs and neglects circadian biology.
I created the SunDiet™ to educate people who are unfamiliar with circadian biology. When you entrain your body with the natural light/dark cycle, reduce the unseen pollution in your life, and eat correctly, magical things happen. You will sleep soundly, feel good, look younger, and ultimately think better. The SunDiet™ asserts that all health care problems stem from a poor light environment, the unmitigated use of technology, and lastly, poor food choices.
